Technology at Wesley Academy

Character

To help build character in students, the Technology Department focuses on developing students' understanding of digital citizenship. The students learn to practice safe, responsible, legal, and ethical behavior while using digital tools and resources. The students learn to adhere to acceptable use policies that reflect positive social behavior in the digital environment, respect the intellectual property of others, abide by copyright law and the Fair Use Guidelines for Educational Multimedia, protect and honor the individual privacy of oneself and others, follow the rules of digital etiquette, practice safe, legal and responsible use of information and technology, and comply with fair use guidelines and digital safety rules.

To help build faith in the students of Wesley Academy, the Technology Department of Wesley Academy has given students access to the Glo Bible, an interactive Bible designed to help students better understand biblical events in historical context. As students read, the text is brought to life through interactive videos, maps and much more. In Middle School, the students use the Glo Bible to create multimedia presentations to describe a question that they have about their own faith.

It is the belief of the Technology Department at Wesley Academy that Computer Skills are now a necessary part of life. Technology has become an increasingly important part of our everyday lives, and it is constantly changing. In order to teach students how to use the technology available today and to prepare students for the future technological changes, the Technology Department focuses on the core standards that remain constant. Students learn to use creative thinking and innovative processes to construct knowledge and develop digital products. Students also collaborate and communicate both locally and globally using digital tools and resources to reinforce and promote learning. The students of Wesley Academy also learn to acquire and evaluate digital content for validity, relevance and appropriateness of the information.  Finally, the students at Wesley Academy are able to demonstrate knowledge and the appropriate use of technology systems, concepts, and operations.
