School History
In August of 1995, Wesley Academy opened its doors, fulfilling a vision of First United Methodist Church of Houston and Dr. William Hinson, its pastor. Dr. Hinson worked with Mrs. Emily Castenado (the first Head of School, whose tenure at Wesley lasted for 15 years) to organize and develop the school. The vision for the school was that Wesley would welcome students from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.
The school began with a Kindergarten and First Grade class, which met in the Stansbury Building on the First Methodist Houston Westchase campus. Each year, a grade level was added, and the first Eighth Grade class graduated in 2003.
In the early years, classes were held in temporary buildings. Today, Wesley Academy is housed on a seventeen acre tract. The two-story Wesley Education Building contains science labs, a computer lab, large classrooms, as well as music and art facilities.
Wesley Academy now educates Babies (six months old) through Eighth Grade. Wesley has become a viable academic institution which welcomes children of all economic, racial, and religious backgrounds.
